The best way to spend October evenings is watching scary Halloween movies. Our last post covered family-friendly Halloween movies, but after the kids go to bed, everybody’s #1 goal of Halloween movies is to be scared silly. We’ve compiled a list of Halloween movie favorites so that all you need to do is click, buy, microwave some popcorn, sit back and get scared!
Run time: 92 minutes
Plot: This is the first in a series of movies about Michael Myers (Will Sandin), a crazed serial killer. It sets the foundation for the series, explaining Myers’ history of being institutionalized after murdering his sister, and introduces his pursuit of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) who seems to be the only one who can escape his murderous rampage.
Run time: 93 minutes
Plot: This film picks up immediately where the last film left off, on the same Halloween night, with all of the characters confused and concerned about where Myers may be, and how he’s not dead after being shot multiple times and falling out of a second-story window. Laurie is being hospitalized for her injuries, and Myers is still in pursuit of her. This film reveals the mysterious link between Myers and Laurie, and illustrates Myers’ continued quest to kill her.
Run time: 88 minutes
Plot: This is the continuation of the Michael Myers/Laurie Strode story, since Halloween III deviated from this storyline (and subsequently tanked in the ratings). After miraculously surviving the blast that ended Halloween II, Myers escapes captivity after being hospitalized for his injuries sustained in the explosion. He starts killing pretty much everyone he encounters, as we’ve come to expect of him, while he begins a new murderous pursuit, this time of his niece Jamie Lloyd, Laurie’s daughter. Laurie has since died, so I guess Myers cut his losses on her. This film follows Myers as he tries to kill his niece, and ends with a surprising twist.
Run time: 96 minutes
Plot: This film begins with a recap of Halloween IV, and shows Jamie now living in a children’s psychiatric facility. They believe that she has a psychic link with her uncle, Myers, and through this believe that he is still alive. Myers had been cared for by a hermit after he somehow escaped the mine he was thrown into in the last movie, and after he awakens from a coma he kills the hermit. He resumes his quest to kill his niece, and kills pretty much everyone else ever. The series ends with several questions left unanswered.
